Your existing landscape lighting low Voltage power source will work great too!
I recently got more serious about home automation (via HAOS) and after researching various communication protocols, I decided to base my sensors primarily on the Z-Wave technology. I found Zooz when I bought the Z-Wave USB hub (ZST39) from Amazon and then when I needed a multi-sensor unit that featured illuminance, I discovered TheSmartestHouse. Thus far, I have ordered several Z-Wave Zooz sensors form these guys and I could not be happier with their well-priced offerings as well as fast shipping. I only had one customer support interaction and that was also very positive. After placing an order for one ZSE70, the next day I emailed them to amend the order for two. They did and shipped everything in one package under the same order number and billing. Simple, quick and efficient.
The two ZSE70 work quite well, I place one on the porch and the other on the patio. Light levels and temperatures between the two can vary due to the sun’s traversal over my house but I found them to be close in readings and responsiveness. No issues with motion detection either, fast and they act as a redundancy to my Arlo cameras’ motion detection. The jury is still out on how they will perform during winter months…
As far as the Zooz USB hub goes, it works great and I should have also got that from TheSmartestHouse, it’s a much better deal here than elsewhere. All-in-all, happy with Z-Wave, Zooz and TheSmartestHouse and recommend all three.
I've had it installed about a week and so far it's a great sensor, and a big upgrade from the prior outdoor motion sensor, the ZSE29, both in form factor and in product quality. The motion sensitivity seems to be higher on the ZSE70 and the addition of temperature is useful.
There are a couple of improvements that could be made: as other reviewers mentioned, the bracket could hold the sensor more firmly, and I wish it was inverted so it slide down instead of up. I initially had an issue with the sensor pointing down after it rained, so removed and unscrewed the back of the bracket and added about 1.5mm of cardboard beneath the rubber ball inside. It's firmly now.
I do wish Zooz made it in black so it blended in better. I would paint it, but assume that voids the warranty.
Everything is good. setting up is tricky but it works fine with my ISY994.
It's a nice looking, solid built sensor. Feels like it has some integrity to it and built well. It was a bit bigger than I expected but it's meant to be outside anyways. The dsk is on the inside of the box so don't throw that away blindly. Haven't had it set up long enough to fully test the data but appears to be accurate so far.
I had to replace the older Zooz Outdoor sensor on my Homeseer home automation system. It was simple and after a few weeks, it works as advertised. I will be purchasing a second one soon.
