This sensor is perfect for spot monitoring in spaces where your smart thermostat doesn't reach. Install the device in your bedroom to prepare just the right temperature for the night. Mount it in the basement or on your sun porch to trigger climate control device and keep the air constant where humidity and temperature is most likely to change quickly.
Just stick it to the flat surface of your choice with the supplied adhesive tape for 1-minute installation. We recommend using the dedicated mounting bracket if you'd like to install the sensor outdoors. Always keep the device out of direct sunlight and rain or snow.
Overall I'm happy with it. The sensor seems accurate enough. My only issue is with the battery life. Compared to other zWave sensors, this one runs out quite a bit faster. I can probably change some configuration settings to help though. The battery life is much longer than any WiFi enabled device.
According to the specs, this temperature sensor has an "Operating Temperature: 40° – 90° F"
So this is basically an indoor temperature sensor only, yet they talk about mounting it outside. I can't think of any climate in the United States that has temperatures that stay between 40° and 90°F.
Hi Chuck,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I appreciate your attention to detail regarding the listed operating temperature range of 40°F to 90°F for our sensor.
You're absolutely right that this range might appear limiting at first glance—especially for outdoor use across varied climates in the U.S. I’d like to offer some clarity on why these limits are specified, and what they truly mean in practice.
While the batteries used in the sensor can technically operate down to -22°F, colder temperatures significantly reduce ion mobility inside the battery. This increases internal resistance and causes a drop in output voltage. Importantly, no energy is actually lost—it’s just that the energy doesn't reach the device efficiently, and instead dissipates internally. As a result, the sensor may stop responding in cold weather, but it should resume functioning once it warms up again.
Additionally, the Z-Wave chip used in our sensor is specified to operate reliably only within this temperature range. This is a common limitation across all Z-Wave sensors we're aware of, which is why most manufacturers—including us—advise against installing them in environments that regularly exceed or drop below these thresholds.
We include the temperature range to ensure transparency and help set realistic performance expectations.
Put one of these on my bathroom fan and it's working like a charm. Install was easy with the already provided wires. Pair it with a temp/humidity sensor and it's great. Got this because my humidistat switch was incredibly unreliable due to the air behind the box affecting the humidity reading. This works better, looks better, and has more options.
Pretty nice little sensor. Easy to pair and very small and unobtrusive design. My only issue with it was the battery life. Not sure if the battery that came with it was a dud or if the issue was my slight deviation from the default settings, but the battery only lasted a few months for me. I reverted to factory settings, we'll see if that helps.
Got it included with home assistant with no issues and works as advertised. Will buy more!
