This sensor is perfect for spot monitoring in spaces where your smart thermostat doesn't reach. Install the device in your bedroom to prepare just the right temperature for the night. Mount it in the basement or on your sun porch to trigger climate control device and keep the air constant where humidity and temperature is most likely to change quickly.
Just stick it to the flat surface of your choice with the supplied adhesive tape for 1-minute installation. Keep in mind the sensor should be installed indoors within the specified temperature and humidity rating.
I have one in my fridge and one in the freezer. Support says it's not rated for the environment, and they're right, HOWEVER it's a VERY VERY small priced to pay to know that food is at safe temperature (or NOT) through a power outage. My Smarthome controller is on battery backup so that actually works! Also your smarthome could be programmed to alert you if you're out of tolerance (door was left open etc). Why the heck doesn't someone make a version of this device with external temperature probes so the battery and device can sit OUTSIDE the fridge/freeze while the sensor is inside. It's really a no-brainer, especially with ZWave LR that has the range.
Zen 34
Great sensor overall. Read the instructions on the frequency of updates. I burned through a battery quite early thinking I was asking it to report in minutes when I was asking for a LOT more updates
I placed this on my patio to monitor outdoor temperature and humidity. Then I added some automations for my HVAC mode switching from cool to heat during the odd times of the year where it's cold overnight, but warm during the day. That way, if it got a little warm during the day, but it was going to be cold that night, it would hold off on switching from heat to cool if a specific threshold didn't take. Works great!
The ZSE44 is a great little sensor for monitoring temperature and humidity around the house. It’s compact, easy to place almost anywhere, and the Z-Wave Long Range connection has been reliable. Readings update consistently and it works well for both monitoring and automation.
