Your existing landscape lighting low Voltage power source will work great too!
Fits my needs. Performance is good.
I replaced 3 Z-Wave devices in my detached garage that just weren't communicating as well as I would have liked. Replacing them with 800LR from Zooz has answered the problems.
Coming from Insteon which had a true outdoor motion sensor, it took months before this was available in the Zwave word. There's no real outdoor water rated motion sensors for zwave or zigbee. Someone is listening to their customers. Fantastic design, power by battery or 12-24v plug -- yes!! The array of built in sensors and features is fantastic covering simple motion tasks to more complicated automation that can use lux readings. Temperature offsets, how it reports different sensors by change increment or by time. Just amazing, this is one amazing motion multi sensor.
The ZSE70 clearly has waterproofing that the ZSE29 lacked, especially a robust gland for power supply cable if you go power-line. If battery, it utilizes two CR123A batteries instead of one, which I imagine means longer life and/or range. The battery cover has a gasket and requires a satisfying effort to close. I did not test the waterproofing, but it is obviously the best of all home motion sensors I’ve installed in the past 15 years.
I am miffed that the motion detection range seems to be about the same as the older model, but that's not the big problem.
Sadly, the ZSE70 mounting is flimsy compared to the ZSE29 and frankly most other products on the market. The tab/channel connecting the device to the wall-mount base is fragile. I purchased four ZSE70 and almost broke the first one when attaching the mount base. The "shoe" part of the mount is very small and easily deforms the "channel" if you do not support the stem when mounting the sensor to the base. I worry that attempting to replace the batteries will result in breaking the shoe/channel mounting of the sensor.
The new sensor Pro’s:
• Smaller unit and smaller footprint allows for increased use cases
• Battery and AC/DC power provides good options
• Well manageable settings via your hub settings
Con’s:
• Adding the AC power supply, as in attaching the DC wires is not easy, You almost need three hands as you need to push the little buttons down, while holding the unit while inserting the wires. Manual is not much help. This should have been better
• Plastic attachment to the wall mount, the piece that slides in, is fragile. I can see this break easily.
• Batteries are not standard AAA like the previous ZOOS sensor, so no rechargeables.
All in all, a good alternative, albeit not cheap. We’ll see how long the 10 or so I have will last and how they perform.
In short, if you are looking for outdoor motion sensors Z-wave, these are a good choice.
