NOTE: You'll need a dedicated PC/laptop/Raspberry Pi and Z-Wave home automation software (sold separately) to install this product.
This product is available in different Z-Wave frequencies so please make sure you choose the correct region before checking out. You need to select the same frequency/region as your end devices when buying Z-Wave controllers to include products to your system without issues. If you're not sure which frequency your devices use, please contact the manufacturers first. Here is what each option stands for:
Connect the 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range Stick to a USB port on your PC, laptop, or Raspberry Pi. Use it with your choice of home automation software, including Home Assistant with JS Z-Wave integration, Indigo, and HomeSeer. Follow the instructions for your software provider as the set-up may be different depending on the interface and operating system. Note this product is designed for expert users only and requires at least basic knowledge of programming.
Home automation software is required to control and configure your Z-Wave network. Z-Wave product compatibility will depend on the software you choose so we recommend installing an open and proven smart home system with your 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range Stick for best results.
Zooz 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range USB Stick ZST39 User Manual (PDF)
This device works well. Plugged it into my x86 device and it was recognized immediately. Works great with Home assistant also. Range seems to cover the whole house (approx 1500 sq ft) without issue. Coming from a vera controller, this device is infinitely faster.
No issues during setup with Home Assistant, working well with no problems so far.
I started setting up Home Assistant a couple weeks ago and went with the Zooz ZST39 for my Z-Wave adapter. I didn't have any issues with the initial setup using Z-Wave JS UI and my four Z-Wave devices (also Zooz products) paired without issue. In nearly a week of use I haven't had a single timed out response and my round trip times are ~30ms.
A slight concern is that Home Assistant is reporting a known issue with firmware built on Z-Wave SDK 7.19.3 having a bug that can hang the controller. Like I said above, I haven't had any issues yet, but the latest ZST39 firmware (as of February 2024) is still based on 7.19.3 so hopefully a firmware update comes out soon and I won't have to worry about that.
Had my doubts a little usb device could create a more reliable network throughout all 3 floors in my house (where wifi struggles) but it.just.works. Do not hesitate to purchase this little device if working in HA.
Using this 800 stick on a NUC running Home Assistant with ZWave JS UI. The stick has been working great for weeks with zero issues. Antenna must be well designed, because it has good long distance signal even without good positioning or using an extension cable.
