NOTE: If you don't see your Z-Wave controller on the list above, please ask the manufacturer of your Z-Wave hub about support for the ZEN55 before you purchase this product.
Check your wiring first to confirm that you have all the following wires present in your electrical box: power, neutral, and the connection to the detector.
If you are not comfortable identifying the wiring and following the instructions, please hire a licensed electrician.
Here is an example diagram showing how to wire the ZEN55 to a smoke detector:

Pretty easy to wire into existing hard wired smoke detectors with interconnect. It really only works as a contact sensor, so not able to trigger an automation that sets off the smoke detectors as a siren as I hoped I could. But in my opinion, the best way to have smart smoke/co detectors in your home is to have "dumb" hard wired, and physically interconnected wiring with a smart relay like this. It will also detect smoke and C/O independently.
I installed wired smoke detectors 5 years ago in my house. The detectors are reliable, made by a reputable manufacturer with a good reputation. There were few if any smoke detectors at the time which had smart features that were not proprietary or expensive.
Fast forward to today. I was looking for a way to get some non-local notification of smoke being detected. The detectors are great if I'm home, but I would like a way to be notified about smoke when I'm not home. I didn't want to get yet another detector from the alarm manufacturer for this purpose. So when I discovered this detector bridge, it was the answer I was looking for.
The bridge senses signals on the signal line used by all of my smoke detectors. If any of the detectors detects smoke, the bridge senses this and reports its state to my home automation system. I can write an automation that will notify me if smoke is detected. For me, it's not super important which smoke detector was triggered, but that smoke was detected.
This is a ZWave 800 device. Being the latest version of the ZWave standard, it is supposed to be backwards compatible with previous version of ZWave. My controller has a ZWave 500 radio. I was able to enroll the device in the same manner I enrolled my other ZWave devices.
In summary, this device was reasonably priced, and worked for me in making my non-smart smoke detectors smart and useful.
I bought this to trigger an event if the smoke detectors alert, but then I realized it also has a relay that can be used to turn on a light (very useful) or siren (don’t need a siren if the smoke detector is already blaring…). Neat capability! It’s a little snug inside the junction box that mounts my smoke detector, but the instructions are clear. Five stars!
Easy to wire and setup into HA Z-wave JS. The X-Sense test button does not send either signal when pressed. I confirmed the signal is sent when it does detect smoke or CO.
Works as advertised
