I've been using a Hubitat C7 hub for quite some time and grew tired of it needing to be constantly rebooted because it dropped off my home network. I bought this Z-box from The Smartest House (my favorite smart home store in the world BTW!) several months ago and am just now trying it out. I have to admit that I'm disappointed and I guess also somewhat spoiled by the intuitive nature of the hub and size of the Hubitat developer community compared to Z-box. The fact that only 7 reviews have been posted for this thing tells me there hasn't been a lot of adoption. I've used an ISY for Zwave for years so I know how complicated and non-intuitive some of these boxes can be but wow just figuring out where to write rules within the Z-box is even more difficult than the ISY. I do think the Web UI look nice but again it is just not very intuitive with a lot of functions/features that are hidden behind every corner. The other expectation was that I would have a more tightly integrated and detailed device list for my Zooz zwave device. The Hubitat actually has this in a better place too and you with direct links to the device user manual. Bummer. The last straw was the mobile application as it really is a hot mess and feels more like beta software as there are a lot of features that are missing such as exclusion of devices so that you can remove and add them to your Zwave network. I had expected to find that a year or so after release that this would have a robust hub and user community but I'm just not seeing that. The marketplace doesn't look like it has a very large number of integrations either and I've yet to find anything that can support my Elk M1 Gold security system, Rachio, Ecobee, and many other smart devices around my home. This purchase was a mistake on my part and should have paid more attention. I'm hoping things get better but for now looks like I'll be starting over with my Hubitat...
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your experience with the Zooz Z-Box Hub. We value all customer input, as it helps us improve and enhance our products.
We understand your concerns about integrations with non-Z-Wave devices. The Z-Box Hub is designed as the first Z-Wave focused hub, which means our primary goal has been to ensure a robust and seamless experience for Z-Wave devices. While we are actively working on expanding compatibility with non-Z-Wave devices, it is indeed a work in progress.
To help you get the most out of your Z-Box Hub, we have comprehensive documentation that guides you through creating a variety of scenes using our intuitive block scene builder. For users who are more comfortable with coding and programming, we also offer the Lua scene builder, providing you with greater flexibility and control over your automation scenarios.
We are also pleased to inform you that both exclusion and inclusion processes are fully available through our mobile app on the latest firmware. Additionally, scene building capabilities have been integrated into the app, ensuring that you can manage and customize your home automation setup directly from your mobile device.
If you have any specific questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer support team. We are here to help and ensure you have the best possible experience with your Zooz Z-Box Hub.
Thank you for your understanding and for being a valued customer.
This was my first experience setting up a smart hub. I set it up over wifi on my computer and it was very easy. The only issue I had was initially finding the correct support page to build my first scene. Once I found it though, it was very easy to follow.
Great price, great hub
I switched to the Z-Box hub when moving to a new home. I was previously using ST and felt I needed to switch to regain a little more "control" over the platform. When ST switched over to their new API/backend, I had lots of devices and automations that were no longer working. I didn't want to go through that again!
Once I worked through some of the logic and things that aren't quite as intuitive (but not hard) as the ST platform, I really, really like this platform. Every device I have connects and works as intended (so far) without the need for device type handlers, etc. I saw another review about the lack of control of the mobile device, but I like having more control on the computer side and less on the app. Works much better for my wife, as I can just keep what's on her device very simple by her request.
This is a much more powerful setup with a seemingly endless amount of opportunities for automation. Support has been great at helping me work through a device add problem (a very old and uncommon Z-Wave device) and also with a few programming questions. The interactive push notifications are a great feature for my family of 4 that allows a little more manual control. The app features a panel mode that is great for a small android tablet that sits in our living room and allows babysitters, our parents, etc. to have control over the house.
I only have 1 Zigbee device I still want to control and I can manage that with ST and an IFTTT integration.
Decent hub, but lacking compared to other brands when it comes to control on your mobile device. The app is pretty much just a way to monitor and turn devices on and off.
unable to do from the mobile app ...
-Remove, edit, or reset devices
-Program automation rules and scenes
-Add new rooms or sections for your smart home
-Create new alarm zones or notifications
-Add or remove users
-Access advanced settings for the hub or your devices
-Update firmware for your hub or end devices
Thank you for your honest feedback! Currently a lot of those functions are reserved to the Web UI for a more secure network, however we've passed on your notes to the developers to hopefully implement in the near future.
