Aeotec by Aeon Labs Z-Wave Plus Dry Contact Sensor Gen5 ZW097-A OPEN BOX

Add Wireless Signal to Dry Contact Sensor

    • Endless applications - add wireless functionality to any wired dry contact sensor
    • Fast and easy installation
    • Mounting hardware included
    • Enhanced communication speed, security and range
    • Supports OTA firmware updates
    • 1-year warranty

You need 2 pieces of additional equipment to take advantage of the product: a Z-Wave gateway controller and an existing dry contact sensor. By connecting the Aeotec device to the dry contact sensor and your smart home hub, you will be able to remotely monitor status changes for the dry contact.

Use the sensor to trigger events in your network and bring Z-Wave functionality to dry contact devices in just minutes. Simple installation and provided mounting hardware make it one of the easiest and most universal Z-Wave products available.

Note: This is a dry contact sensor. The product does not contain a built-in relay.

Include the sensor to your network by sending a pairing command from your controller and pressing the action button on the Aeotec device. It's always a good idea to perform the process as close to the gateway as possible. Please make sure your hub supports Z-Wave Plus devices. Not sure? Ask us!

Decide if, where, and how you will mount your Aeotec sensor. Follow the user manual for mounting instructions (scroll down for PDF). Prepare the wires of your dry contact by stripping them a little over quarter of an inch if necessary. Make sure their sizes are within 18-20 AWG and 25 N tension. Press and hold the Fast Wiring Button, insert the wires, and release the button to clamp wires.

What does "dry contact" mean anyway?

A dry contact is a contact which is not initially connected to a voltage source. It could be stand-alone, like a pressure switch mounted on a boiler.

Or, if the contact is mounted as part of an electrical unit that has a power source, then the dry contact has no pre-wired electrical connection to that power source. For example, a magnetic motor starter may have an extra contact which is not connected to the control circuit that controls the motor. However, when the motor starts, the dry contact changes state, because the mechanical action of the starter moves the contact. This dry contact could then be wired to devices/circuits that are separate/remote from the motor starter circuits just like the Aeotec dry contact sensor. (Thank you, alpha b at Yahoo Answers!)
