not reliable enough, mobile app is terrible

First - I didn't think that being limited to just using the Vera Mobile app was going to be a big deal. Unfortunately is crashes a lot for me. The fact that you can't fall back to the regular web UI is a huge misstep for this product. I don't mind that it's limited and I don't get to play with handlers or complicated automation. The use case I had for this was a small zwave grid away from my house. I thought with was going to be perfect for the handful of devices I was going to put there. But the instability of the mobile app, and the fact you have nearly zero ability to tweak alerts you get make it a deal breaker for me.

If this is your first foray into zwave and you are looking for a low cost of entry - skip it. You will be more frustrated than you need to be and wonder why you would ever want to expand.

Build quality of the device seems fine and I haven't had a problem with the physical device. I am going to keep it and see if I can use learning mode to join this to my existing hub and at least use it as a range extender.

          A rocky start to Z-wave

I got this because of the low cost of entry, to try the Vera platform. This was maddening to set up: it kept disconnecting before I could add it to my network, and I had to figure out on my own how to reset it so I could start over (hold the button down for over 10 seconds).

When I finally got it set up, I saw how bad the mobile app is. Just getting to the scenes is 2 taps deep, unless you switch over to the "new" dashboard. Then the labels only show about 6 characters. Time zone settings are buried (why not use what my phone is set to?) so my first scheduled scene was hours too early.

The features for value are great, but I don't recommend this at all. Planning to build an open-source hub, so I can use a different interface to control this as a gateway.
