We sent the shock and vibration Z-Wave sensor to John so he could test it with his new SmartThings 2 hub. Here is how he used the Vision shock and vibration sensor:
I needed something to protect my sliding glass door from forced entry so I turned to a shock sensor. Setup was super easy as I illustrate in the video.
I did realize later that I installed it upside down but so far it seems to work fine so I decided not to go through the process of ripping it off and flipping it.
The range on the sensor is pretty solid at about 25 feet from the nearest repeater.
I haven't had any issues with false positives so far so I have no complaints!
One thing I would like to note: I am using this sensor with a SmartThings V2 Hub and by default it shows up as a door/window sensor this won't work for most people's purposes. I very simply logged into the SmartThings developer portal and went to the "My Devices" section and edited the device to turn it into a "Motion Sensor" instead. This made the sensor act the way that I needed it to. It now shows as an intrusion when the door is moved while my system is armed. - John DiCapua
